The Convent of Mercy, Doon, Co. Limerick is the venue for an Auction of Antique and High Class Furniture, Grandfather Clock etc. on Saturday 9th July 2016 at 12 noon when over 600 lots will be offered for sale by Charleville based Auctioneer, P.J. O'Gorman.


The Sisters of Mercy will leave their Convent in Doon this month after 151 years.  The Mercy Sisters arrived in Doon at a different time in the Parish's history.  The famine and its aftermath marked one of the darkest chapters in the history of Doon Parish.  In one six month period alone over 300 people died and from 1847 to 1853 the number of houses in the Parish decreased from 982 to 375.  The arrival of the Sisters of Mercy on 7th February 1865 from Kinsale, Co. Cork helped to transform the Parish and surrounding area.
